In a ceremony in Sheridan, Wyoming on Friday, October 27, Governor Mark Gordon signed an executive order naming Barbara Smith the 9th Poet Laureate of the State of Wyoming. Barbara, whose book Putting a Name on It was published in 2022 by Deep Wild Books, is Professor Emeritus at Western Wyoming College. She is a past recipient of the Wyoming Governor’s Arts Award for her contributions in support of the arts in Sweetwater County and for her own writing. She has been a mainstay in the state-wide community of poets and writers for decades, as an organizer, educator, and presenter.
