Heading out next week to my very own heaven-on-earth in the Tetons, on my 48th (!) anniversary hike.
From the very first, back when I was 16, vagabond poet Vachel Lindsay’s words have been on my tongue:
Going tramping again,
Going to the mountains,
To recapture the stars,
To meet again the nymphs
Of the fountains.
To visit the bear,
To salute the eagle,
To be kissed all night
By wildflowers in the grass!
I’ve got my reading material packed for those cozy nights in the tent: the 2020 issue of Deep Wild: Writing from the Backcountry, the home for creative work inspired by journeys to places where there are no roads. https://deepwildjournal.com/
Love this poem, and these pictures. My very first backpacking trip was in the Tetons. Fond memories of a gorgeous place. Have fun!
