One of the most notorious racist place-names in the National Park System is no more! I was among the first this week to camp in the newly designated Wooden Shoe Canyon (formerly Sq**w Canyon) in Canyonlands National Park. So new that the old trail signs are still up, and no one else on the trail knew about it until I told them (and I told everyone!) Thus far, the only “Wooden Shoe Canyon” on the web is the one down in Dark Canyon. But my permit tells the truth of it. R.K.
