The results of the Deep Wild Graduate Student Poetry contest are in! Out of nearly a hundred submissions from throughout the United States and beyond, contest judges Rebecca Lawton and Margaret Pettis have selected the following poems. Congrats, poets!

First Place, $300

Second Place, $200

“Teach Me, River,” by Kaila Young, Western Colorado University, MFA in Creative Writing

Third Place, $100

“Night Hunt,” by Rain Hastings, Western Colorado University MFA in Creative Writing

Honorable Mentions

“The Bolton Potholes, Vermont,” by Mary Simmons, Bowling Green University, MFA—Poetry

“A Fish—Tenkara,” by Jarrett Ziemer, Western Colorado University, MFA in Creative Writing

The top three poems will appear in the 2023 issue of Deep Wild Journal, due out this June, while the Honorable Mentions will be published later this year on the Deep Wild website.
