Big-time congrats to my good friend and Deep Wild Journal right-hand man Dave Gutierrez, recipient of the 2023 Mayor’s Arts Award for the City of Rock Springs, Wyoming. For as long as I have known Dave Gutierrez—and that is close to thirty years now—he has been contributing to the cultural life of his life-long community, as a many-faceted artist, a professional graphic designer, and as an all-around enabler of creative enterprises. As the graphic designer for five years running of Deep Wild Journal, he brings his expertise and his pursuit of perfection to the challenge of making a book out of the ton of words I pass his way. His artistic vision and designer’s fine eye is one of the main reasons why the journal has succeeded so well and is growing in popularity with each new issue.
